Apparently, my New Year 2012 resolution is to minimize as much debts as possible, profiting from my investments and attained a great work-study life. One thing to improve on is to be less anti-social and socialize with people to have a better network. Time to ditch my "RPG" style of doing things. Hope my salary increment will be a relatively rewarding amount. My coming bonus will be able to clear much of the loans that I have. Aiming to score well for my modules and really learn something useful to be able to contribute to my job.

First quarter of this year, I am still a student in Singapore Polytechnic. At the end of my first quarter, I finished my final examination. With just a week of rest, I started drafting my resume and hunt for job, whereas my peers are either enjoying their holiday or planning for their long holidays. After a week of job-hunting, I managed to get through a few interviews and finally got my first Full-time job at NCS Pte Ltd as a Service Desk Specialist. I did considered about the job, but since I didn't have such experiences in this job. I do not want to consider so much and rather concentrate on this entry-level job. It was difficult within my first two weeks as I am unfamiliar with the job scope. It really take me a few months to get used to it. However, I will not say that I am perfect now, because there are a lot more room for improvement to better performance.

However the time between first quarter and second quarter of the year was a difficult one as there were many personal problems. I think it was a time to carry on with my next phase in life. I will say since the second quarter of the year till now, time flies very fast. I have gained valuable experiences, know good friends, good colleagues and get to improve on myself. I also get many good advices and support from my workplace to embark my studies at SIMS University for improving my skills.

Definitely looking forward to 2012 as it will be an interesting year for me though..

Just signed up a Traders' account with Philip Securities. I guess its time to monitor and study for my first stock to invest in. I'm planning to invest in Penny stock first before going into Blue Chips stock which is my ultimate goal.

Went to Kinokuniya (Bugis) after work, the books section of IT and Finance were so little. However, I managed to get hold of two good books. One is the overall Investing Book for dummies practically for novice Investor and another book written by NUS professor on Investment Management in Singapore context. After reading through the main points of the Singapore one, i will say its worth it.

Incomes will be under pressure soon: PM Lee

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Wednesday that the incomes of low-end and white-collar workers will be under pressure soon.

PM Lee told CNBC in an interview that Singapore's economy is slowing down and will continue to do so going into 2012. This is due to global economic conditions getting tough.

According to a Sept 1 economic report by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, economic activity in Singapore is likely to grow modestly in the second half of this year.

Statistics provided by the Ministry of Trade and Industry showed that Singapore's economy grew by 1.3 per cent from July to September after contracting by 6.3 per cent in the previous quarter.

This is on a seasonally-adjusted quarter-on-quarter annualised basis.

PM Lee also told CNBC there will be uncertainties because the economic cycles are shorter.

For the Singapore economy to continue growing at a strong pace, he said Singapore needed more workers, more skills and more talent.

Mr Lee also spoke on the economic situation in Europe.

When questioned by CNBC, he said the problem was deep and involved not just Greece but also other countries like Italy and Spain.

"It's not just the immediate problems but there're also longer term structural questions about the Euro, and whether it will go forward or it'll go backwards.

"They have to make sure that the problem does not spread beyond Greece and cause a run on Italy for example, which would have an implication for the whole world," he said.

An international study into the use of social networks by Experian®, the global information services company, reveals just how much time people living in different countries spend on Facebook. Singaporeans emerge from the study as those who spend the longest on the social network site, with an average of 38 minutes and 46 seconds per session, while people living in Brazil spend less than half that with an average of 18 minutes and 19 seconds per Facebook session.

Singapore's IT sector still facing a talent shortage

Singapore’s IT sector is facing a talent shortage and a large number of roles are being filled by foreign or imported talent.

Apart from “in- demand” technically skills such as web/mobile based technologies, cloud computing and virtualization, organizations are also increasingly looking for a combination of IT skills and strong industry specific business appreciation and knowledge. Skills such as project management, architecture, risk management, and development and support (cross-platform/technology) are generally highly sought after by employers.

According to Brian Richards, Head of Kelly IT Resources, techno-functional roles that require business acumen along with technical expertise, as well as cross-technology roles that require expertise in a number of technologies, tend to be more attractive to potential candidates rather than pure vanilla technology roles that require only specific technical skills.

Richards notes that organizations preferred by job hunters tend to be banks, consulting companies and organizations (especially with Gen Y) that tend to be (or are at least be perceived as) more fun, creative, dynamic, flexible and technologically savvy/advanced and fast growing such as Google, Yahoo, and Apple.

“From our data, in general, 78% of Gen X and 70% of Gen Y are willing to spend their own money on training to upgrade their skills,” said Richards.

Personal Branding

A growing number of Singapore’s employees are developing their own personal “brands” as part of a trend toward taking greater control over their careers, including steps to help differentiate themselves in a fast-changing workplace, according to the latest survey results from workforce solutions leader Kelly Services.

The findings are part of the Kelly Global Workforce Index, which obtained the views of approximately 134,000 people in 29 countries, including more than 2,700 in Singapore.

Personal marketing, or branding, has become a feature of the modern workplace, with respondents identifying the elements they regard as most important in building their identities - verbal communication skills (66%), résumés (60%), technical knowledge (60%), written communications (55%), personal attire (52%), and use of social media (35%).

“As many individuals are moving out of the typical employment relationship, they are thinking about how to promote themselves and stand-out in the crowded workforce,” said Mark Sparrow, Managing Director, Kelly Services Singapore. “There is also a high degree of awareness about the pace of change in the workplace and the ability to manage this change.”

The research also shows almost three-quarters of respondents are prepared to spend their own money on upgrading their skills - not waiting on their employer to do it for them - while a similar number believe they will change their career and re-invent themselves in the future.

In Singapore, 78% of Gen X are prepared to spend their own money on training to upgrade their skills, higher than for Gen Y (70%) and baby boomers (68%). More than half (70%) of Gen X cite verbal communication skills among the most important elements in personal branding, compared with Gen Y (65%) and baby boomers (59%).

I feel that staying in the IT line in Singapore is tough. There are many challenges faced with the foreigners coming into our homeland taking the same jobs as us. After reading through the modules offered in a IT degree, i feel that many of which is not to my interest. There are way too many things that I wouldn't want to specialize or work in my future jobs. Another way is to get as much certified certification in my field and attained a valuable skill. But i simply don't understand why so many people said, without a degree will not succeed. I feel that the society is making degree as one of the compulsory education in ones' life. I really feel tired of doing things that is forced by the society.

After attaining, my Diploma in Information Communication Technology (Specialized in Web Technology), i will like to step into a microsoft-certified certification. I am currently working in a IT solution company as a Service Desk Specialist. I feel that i am in a right environment as I am able to apply most of my troubleshooting skills and exposed to the overall technologies and services used by the whole ministry. By the way, yes i'm supporting the whole ministry as a front-line position.

I am going to attain my MCSE certification first, as to familiarize with all the full Windows 7 client and Windows 2003 server administration. It is ultimately beneficial towards my goal and I am planning to concentrate on this certification seriously.

HTC HD2 Camera Launch While Locked

Inspired by this great feature of Windows Phone 7 Camera, there's a free application for the HTC HD2 which will give you an almost similar feature. The application, once started, will respond to the Home hardware key and bypass the locked state of your Device and directly launch the Camera app. In a scenario where your device is sleeping, you push the Home button once and the device resumes (but still locked) and then you give it a second push of the button which will take you to the Camera app directly.

And if your Unlock sequence is different than the stock sliding one, the app comes with an unlock gesture learning mode where you can predefine your own sequence to unlock your device. As far as installation is concerned, just download the CAB and install it to your Device. If you want the app to start automatically with the system, just create a shortcut to the app in Windows\StartUp folder and you're set.

Update: The app also polls the proximity sensor and if it senses that it is for instance, in a pocket, it will do nothing so you don't have to worry about capturing some pictures of the insides of your pockets.

Okay more news about having the Windows Phone 7 OS being ported to HTC HD2. This is already a good progress by the XDA developers !! I had tried the real Windows Phone 7 with my friend's phone. It was brilliant as a version 1 type of standard. I'm sure the future updates will make it even more better. I see a potential competition in the near future. By that time comes, HTC HD2 is running more and more smoothly as the original Windows Phone 7 devices.

You have heard about HTC HD2 running its original Windows Mobile 6.5. U have also seen HTC HD2 running on android. The original hardware of HTC HD2 released since a year and several months ago, is still on par and better than most of the newer hardware released so far in terms of Specification. When compared against benchmark ranking, HTC HD2 is still at the top few position despite of an old device.

Now. The developers at XDA developers are going to port in Windows Phone 7 OS where Microsoft are not intended to bring the new OS into the HTC HD2, is going to be not a miracle. Windows 7 Minimum Hardware Specification

The minimum requirements for the CPU are 1GHz. Other than the CPU, the camera is standard at 5 Megapixel and 720p video recording. The hardware buttons are also standard three buttons on all devices. The problem here is that the price is also kept at a standard high price. I was thinking of getting a smartphone with windows 7 to give it a try, but due to the specification requirement, the phone is gonna be a BOMB !

I'm so looking forward to this phone. Most likely, this device shown above is to be the confirmed device to be out soon. I can't wait to try the new Windows Mobile 7. The screen is so AWESOME ! Microsoft said that they will put in XBox gaming into their OS. I can have my HD2 to run on android and HD3 on the new Windows Mobile 7, so I enjoyed the best of both world !

Giving a S$1000 note to buy a 45 cents mineral water at an express counter

All right. This issue may be right or wrong to some people. But the story goes like this. I was queuing up at an express counter at a supermarket in Orchard Rd. In front of me was a fine lady purchasing a bottle of mineral water. What made me noticed was, "How come she is taking a long time?" Then I found out that she passed the cashier a piece of SGD$1000. Apparently, the cashier did ask her whether she had small change or not. I was thinking as well as showing a lame look at her, "How the hell an express counter have big change when they handle a few items per customer?" Even if she wanted to change the note, she can go to the other counters which had not much people. As a result, it forced everyone behind the express counter to accumulate with more people and made more people waiting behind. The cashier got no choice, but to cancel her item and called the manager to pass the change, so as to proceed on with other customers. I felt that this is ridiculous...

Smartphone market grew 55 percent, iOS declining by 2014

There are some good times ahead for smartphones, say market analysts from IDC. Smartphone market share is expected to grow by over 50% and oddly iOS will be declining in the future, with Android and Windows gaining ground.

IDC analysts actually had to increase their prediction of how much the smartphone market will grow this year by as much as 10%. That means they expect a healthy 269.6 million smartphones to ship by the end of the year, a huge improvement over the 173.5 million number from last year. That's a growth of 55.4%.

The overall phone market is growing faster than anticipated too - in 2010 the market should grow by 14.1% (1.5% higher than initial estimates). In the coming years, smartphone market will keep growing though at a slower pace - 24.5% in 2011 and only 13.6% in 2014.

Speaking of 2014, here are some interesting estimates IDC has prepared on the smartphone OS market share four years in the future. Symbian will keep the number 1 spot, though with smaller share. Android will snatch the number two spot and Windows will grow to just below 10%.

BlackBerry OS is expected to retain its current share (though it will slip to third place). Interestingly though iOS share will drop by 25% in the next four years. We'll have to wait and see if these predictions pan out - but if they do, the Redmond OS will nearly equal the Cupertino OS market share in 2014.

I personally loves big stuffs, packed with several features within, therefore this device really attracts me. I myself is currently holding a 4.3" inch HTC HD2. New 4th Generation IPod Touch from Apple

From my own point of view, I felt that this is the only potential product from Apple. From what I see, it basically gets most of the stuffs from IPhone 4G to build into Ipod Touch. I really hope Apple will create the two different model device to be different with each of their unique feature and functionality. I hope there will not be any failure flaws like the IPhone 4G. I will look forward to try this in store and post another time to express my opinion.

It is not easy to learn how to sign your very own signature, I'm also learning at the same time. Here are some tips on how to start.

- Get a piece of paper and practice doing your own signature. Try closing your eyes and sign your name the way you like it, and see how it looks.

- Make the First Letter of your first name large and the rest of your name small, do the same with your last name.

- Sign your name with a slant.

- Experiment with as many styles as you can.

- Go through all the different signatures and evaluate each one. Do you like it? Does it resemble you? Is it 'cool' enough?

- Once you've found one that you really like, practice it on another sheet of paper until you have it right.

- Be sure you are completely satisfied with your signature.

5 days after installing Android Froyo into my HTC HD2 Smartphone

I installed Android Froyo Version 2.2 on 26 August 2010. I had been reading up about this installation and latest version since a 2 months ago. However, i do not have the time and motivation in porting over the latest Android platform.

If thats so, why did I willing to do it on 26 August 2010?
It was because my HTC HD2 in Windows Mobile went dead on 25 August 2010 night. I lost all my contacts, data that is within the Smartphone's memory. I blame myself for not backing up my contacts and data anywhere. Therefore the following day, I went to download all the tools required and reconfirming my actions posted in both XDA developers Forum and HTC HD2 thread from HardwareZone Forum.

The above screenshot shows the initial part of my OS. Nothing is inside and its a clean installation of Android Froyo version 2.2.

After 5 days of usage, I am very happy with this OS rather than my previous Windows Mobile. In most of the developers' dream in XDA developer forum, most of them wanted to install Android into HTC HD2 from a long long time ago. It is such a great device being still the most "HUGE" 4.3" screen and power hardware Smartphone in the market. With Android OS inside, I can say its one of the greatest combination at the moment in the Singapore Market. I didn't mention HTC Evo 4G as they are not suitable for use in the Singapore Market.

Apple has released official advice for iPhone 4 owners to overcome the problem of the device losing signal when held by the lower left corner.

Steve Jobs responded to a query about the problem from one owner by saying: "Just avoid holding it in that way."

The official advice is to "avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band".

Alternatively, said Apple, customers could buy a case to shield the antenna.

The iPhone 4 went on sale on 24 June, with hundreds of people queuing outside Apple's flagship store in central London for the launch.

Many new owners reported that signal strength dropped when the phone was held.

In a statement, Apple said: "Gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas."

Steve Jobs issued his response in a message responding to an e-mail from the Ars Technica news site. Mr Jobs wrote that "All phones have sensitive areas".

The problem is thought to be particularly acute for left-handed owners who naturally touch the phone in the sensitive area.

The casing of Apple's latest phone is made of stainless steel, which also serves as its antenna.

Apple sells a rubber "bumper" that shields the sensitive area as do many other firms.

Richard Warner, one of the first to buy an iPhone 4, contacted BBC News, saying that he thought the phone was "useless in its current state".

"Apple have created a phone that has an antenna on the bottom left-hand side of the phone."

"This means that when you hold it in your left hand, the signal bars slowly fade until there is no signal," he wrote.

'Complaints'

A number of videos have been posted on video sharing site YouTube complaining about the reception issue.

One video had an American user running a speed test, with hands on and hands free.

In it, the user 'awington' says that, while holding the phone "it won't even run the test when I am holding the phone... once I let go, it makes a connection and runs the test.

"Hold it a second time, and the upload test will not start."

Social networking site Twitter was full of chatter, with numerous tweets on the reception problems.

The issue might stem from the way the integrated antenna is constructed. One section provides mobile reception, while another is for wi-fi.

Some users have speculated that touching the bottom of the phone bridges this gap, affecting signal strength.

When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone 4 at Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, he described the integrated antenna as "really cool engineering".

Firstly, report writing is really very boring.. I still yet to gather all the resources and materials of the content. How to write like that...

Secondly, MAD is really driving me MAD !! The codes are just being annoying to me, make me have no mood to do anything to resolve it. My lecturer said b4 that he would help us during our lesson (working on project period). Instead, what he always tell us is, "search for help file", the famous "CTRL-SPACE" or say that he is programming Visual Basic and suddenly forgot about J2ME. It is simply WTF. Therefore I was thinking... Since he treat us like that, then isn't we got the right to tell him that we refer to websites and library books while we are being interviewed by him when he ask us tough questions?

Still got many bugs !! Decided to make a simple interface. Damn !

Rushed to grab my usual Toto ticket, but too bad, time's up and I couldn't buy it on time. My S$3M chance has gone.

After that, went to Jurong Point with my classmate, as he need to get a present for his friend. I had not been there for months and its totally a brand new place for me. After the extension, I would say that it was really big and I also saw many vacant apartments right on top of the shopping center.

So my friend had finally decided to get his present at some gift shop, and I requested to visit the DVD/CD shop to look around for Bruce Lee movies. In the end, I found the series of Bruce Lee and did not think twice and got it. Went home to watch a few episodes before I Zzzz.

As usual, every wednesday I would be going to Bedok Swimming Complex to swim with my friend. After having our lunch, I walked to Bedok Bus Interchange to get on bus 16 to go home. When I entered the bus, I found that the interior of the bus is Sooo... different. I immediately walk all the way to the back and look around. Everyone was looking around too. LOL ! Bluetooth 3.0 Standard Launches This Month

The Bluetooth SIG has approved its 3.0 spec with a 21 April launch date: I've written before about Bluetooth 3.0, which pairs the 3 Mbps low-power frequency hopping radio system of 2.1+EDR with high-speed transfers via 802.11 standards. The idea is that a properly integrated Bluetooth 3.0 system will have a bulk-transfer mode that two devices can swap into. (Note that the SIG is referencing 802.11, the generic standard, as it doesn't have a specific program in place with the Wi-Fi Alliance--yet?--for cross-certifiation.)

For instance, if you had one of those ubiquitous BlackBerry or iPhone smartphones with Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi inside, you could start a sync session with your PC. For normal calendar data and other matter, the sync would use the Bluetooth radio system. To sync a large music or video file, the handset's BT gear would talk with the computer's, agree to switch to 802.11, and then make the bulk transfer. At the end, communication would return to the other radio.
This mode works in a quasi ad-hoc fashion, without requiring that a device join a Wi-Fi network, which is part of why the 802.11 label is being used. With the collapse of UWB as a near-term generic option for personal area networking (PAN)--it may wind up being important, but it's not right now--802.11 standards will likely morph into WLAN/PAN systems. Intel has been working on this for a while, disclosing its Cliffside project a year ago as part of a larger effort to rethink mobile device functions.

Bluetooth 3.0 will get its formal unveiling later this month along with information about which chipmakers have products ready to sample. Because the SIG is a practical group, standards aren't released until there are multiple vendors with interoperable prototype chips and hardware.

Prices of technology products are always dropping. I just gave a real example. I bought my 128MB Sandisk Flash Drive for S$48 in the year 2004. But 5 years later, on the recent IT show, a 8GB Sandisk Flash Drive costs only S$26 !!

Under the category of the three Mobile Service Providers, my mobile phone, Nokia N95 8GB falls under Category A which is valued at S$400. I bought and recontract my mobile phone last year at S$698. Just recently, my contract had ended and I wanted to recontract and get a new phone. I decided to trade in, so i went to a Starhub shop and ask them whether I could trade in at S$400? After checking, they quote me S$270 for it. At that time, I was quite pissed off, i said how come so low, as my phone is in good working order. Then he said, market price now is S$340 for a new N95 8GB trade in, furthermore, my casing is quite bad, so reduce S$70 to S$270. Thats simply crazy, so i don't want to trade in my phone anymore. I rather use till it spolit. =(

People who eat more red or processed meat have a higher risk of death from all causes including cancer, while a higher consumption of white meat reduces such risks, a decade-long US study released Monday found.
The joint study begun in 1995 by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and seniors group AARP followed more than half a million men and women between age 50 and 71, who filled out a food frequency questionnaire estimating their intake of red and processed meats as well as white meats such as pork, chicken and turkey.
Over the study period, 47,976 men and 23,276 women died. The one fifth of men and women who ate the most red meat -- a median of 62.5 grams per 1,000 calories per day -- had a higher mortality rate than the one fifth who consumed the least -- 9.8 grams per thousand calories, according to the report.A similar rate held true for consumers of processed meat.
Comparatively, the top fifth of white meat consumers had a slightly lower risk for death than those who ate the least white meat."For overall mortality, 11 percent of deaths in men and 16 percent of deaths in women could be prevented if people decreased their red meat consumption to the level of intake in the first quintile," wrote the authors led by Rashmi Sinha of NIH's National Cancer Institute."
The impact on cardiovascular disease mortality was an 11 percent decrease in men and a 21 percent decrease in women if the red meat consumption was decreased to the amount consumed by individuals in the first quintile."Cancer-causing compounds are know to form during high-temperature cooking of meat, the report stated, and meat is a major source of saturated fat, which has been linked to certain cancers.Lower meat consumption has been linked to reductions in risk factors for heart disease, including lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure."
These results complement the recommendations by the American Institute for Cancer Research and the World Cancer Research Fund to reduce red and processed meat intake to decrease cancer incidence," the authors wrote.

Currently doing some crazy things exactly the same concept as the above scenario. Nothing
much, but I do not agree with things like leaders following 100% from people. Thats simply not
leaders, but rather some workers following instructions.

I believe being a sucessful leader, is to have its own ideas, LISTEN but NOT FOLLOW people's
ideas. With the previous statement, I'm talking about learning from the best practices of
business.

Is the above model familiar? I'm not challenging against someone's system. However, I do agree
to an extend, but if doing business is being condemn by 1% of the population, there is no point.
What will the people in the HOT category thinks? Other than COLD, WARM & HOT, what do you think about the forth one? Explode? Irreversible? FYI, Irreversible means : Incapable of being reversed or turned about or back. I do not want that to happen. Friends I made, my relatives, I do not want to lose friends and being despised by relatives.. There is just too many flaws in the current system. Its simply not right for me.

This is a project basis job and it will last for 6 days. There will be 2 phase of the project, this is phase 1 details

14th March 9am – 9pm (Working hours might vary depending on the completion of the job) 18 Needed

15th March 9am – 6pm (Depending on the completion of job on Sat) 20 Needed

16th March 8am – 6pm 24 Needed

17th March 8.30am - 6pm 10 Needed

18th March 9am – 6pm 8 Needed

Job Details
Plugging and unplugging PCs from the current location into boxes
Setting up PCs, joining domains and printers
Basic troubleshooting of Windows
Setting Up Printers

Payout is $6/hr and OT will be $9/hr after 6pm.
Location: Havelock Road, Ministry of Manpower.

Priorities goes to candidates who are able to work at least Sat, Sun(if needed) Mon & Tues & Wed.

Haha guess your the one who motivate me to post and update regularly. Actually, sometimes really got nothing to post.

Let's take something for example. See the *mediacock chinese channel. Sometimes, they don't even have local shows to air over our television, so they use other country like hong kong shows to be shown here. Reason, cos they have no idea what to show. No idea. LOL ! Make sense right?

Bad Economy

I really wondered whether will Singapore's Economy will be better or not, because things have been increasing and people were getting retrenched. Jobs are getting lesser and salary cut everywhere.

Though I am still a student, I was worrying whether I will be able to find a temporary job during my holiday. Everyone needs CASH. Money is definitely involved everywhere, but what can we do? Save, stay at home and eat. To most of the people I know, they often think that I'm a practical person, but I'm forced to be ! No choice. But I had finally learned to use the *title well when necessary.

Things just don't work the way you want. Thats why we have to work hard for it. However, this is not usually the case.

At times like this, times are bad, living cost went up, jobs are not enough and competitive, and people requirements are demanding more.

Study is important, but no matter how much effort you put in, life is still difficult. People demand and expect more. As a result, became jobless and useless. Its a common life cycle.

It had finally come to a time where I have to determine which specialisation for my next two years of study. Two of them is :-

- Broadband and Security Services
- Web Technology and Services

To a more realistic approach, I am going to select Broadband and Security Services as my choice, as it will be more relevant to my coming job. Another concern will be that I will miss all my friends in my class. More than half of my coursemates are selecting Web Technology and Services for their selection. Still deciding. . . Still got up to 4 Feb 09 to decide till then. . . =(

My Current Formation

It was a tough fight to remain in Div 1 as people like Ace, HWARANG, Ashhunt, etc had been making my life hard in Free League. From Div 1, i lose all the way to Div 4. However, this morning, BlitzAce had sent me all his powerful gears, which my build had grown even stronger and after spending gold on Growth Viel Adv on most of my mercernaries, I was able to kick off some more irritating build along my way to Div 1.
